End of Year Report
May,
2005 – April, 2006
Community
Assistance
Our Community Assistance Committee was
very active this year.
Through their efforts, IFOPE donated 3,100 pesos to cover the
medical costs for a little girl from Puertocito who sustained burns
over 30% of her body.
Other donations included a wheelchair; an
EKG machine given to the Puerto Escondido Centro de Salud; medical
supplies to the Red Cross and Centro de Saluds in Tomatal, La Barra
and the Indepenencia neighborhood; and backboards to the Red
Cross.
In addition, members voted to donate
50,000 pesos from the general fund to match a donation made by the
Blues Festival/06 promoters for the construction of a therapy pool
at the Special School.
Bids have been taken and costs will be
monitored.
Library
The Library Committee has had another
profitable year. A
bazaar held in early December was very successful, netting 7,120
pesos.
Organizing and streamlining the library
have been ongoing with re-alphabetizing of the books and a training
session in January.
The committee voted to increase rent by
1,000 pesos per month, starting in January.
We look forward to continuing success, as
the library is a source of pride for IFOPE as well as a
moneymaker.
Emergency
Response
This committee had another busy
year. There were about
16 emergencies including several medical evacuation situations as
well as the sad task of dealing with several deaths. All were handled with
sensitivity and competence.
On a lighter note, a car donated by an emergency response
evacuee was sold for 38,000 pesos.
A cell phone was purchased to handle
emergency calls. This
should expedite emergency response calls. The number is: 044-954-540-3816.
Public
Relations
IFOPE calendars were again printed for
sale to members and the local community. We realized a profit of
approximately 4,265 pesos with more calendars to sell. The calendars are not only a
fundraiser, but also are a useful tool to acquaint many people with
IFOPE.
A Directory of Business and Services was
compiled and produced.
It is free to members and costs 50 pesos for
non-members. This is
another source of income for IFOPE.
IFOPE now has its own website: www.ifope.com. Check it out! We’ve already had many
hits. This should prove
to be a big boost in getting out information about
IFOPE.
The IFOPE information on tomzap was also
updated this year.
Visioning
Committee
This ad hoc committee was formed to
undertake a structured approach to the review and updating of IFOPE
overall directions for future years. Each committee chair was
asked to write out a job description along with the purpose of the
committee within IFOPE.
The task of this committee was to
identify past, present and future visions of IFOPE. The future vision is: Maintain the library,
emergency response,
community assistance (with better guidelines and more
specific method of identifying projects), and public relations
(calendars) committees.
Have at least two annual social occasions. Start a members buying club.
And, provide a welcoming orientation for new members to answer
questions about Puerto Escondido and help them locate services and
government agencies of importance.
Members invested 100,000 pesos in a
6-month CD, due in December 2005. The interest earned on this
CD was approximately 8%.
The Executive Board would like to thank
the 106 members of IFOPE for their support and participation
throughout this past year.
IFOPE has gained considerable recognition in the Puerto
Escondido area.
Although there was a great deal of reluctance on the part of
members to run for Executive offices this spring, we hope that IFOPE
will continue as a group to benefit the community at large and our
members.
